ROSARY RALLY: The 10th annual Greater Youngstown Area public square rosary rally will be Saturday at the Shrine of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted, 517 S. Belle Vista Ave., Youngstown. Eucharistic adoration and confession will take place 11 to 11:50 a.m. Mass is at noon and public recitation of the rosary begins at 12:30 p.m. Participants will pray the rosary in solidarity with 20,000 other rallies taking place across the country.
WORKING WOMEN: The Willing Working Women of Progressive Baptist Church, 2258 Colonial Ave. SE, Warren, will host Proudly Praising in Pink, a worship service and luncheon, to boost breast cancer awareness, prevention, self-care and provide resource information.
The free Saturday event encourages attendees to wear pink, especially survivors. The guest speaker will be Dr. Ruth Quarles, health commissioner for the city of Warren. Minister Laveretta Cooks-Shouse is the guest soloist. The service will be followed by a luncheon and giveaways in the fellowship hall. Donations are accepted.
BRASS TO PERFORM: Christ Episcoapl Church, 2627 Atlantic St. NE, Warren, will present the Park Avenue Brass: A Concert of Family Favorites at 4 p.m. Oct. 19. The event is free.
CANDLELIGHT CAFE: Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic St. also is planning Dinner, Divas and Dessert : A Candlelight Cafe, Oct. 25. There will be a silent auction at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and performance by Christ Church staff singers and friends. Tickets are $35 and seating is limited. CONCERT PLANNED: Bazetta Christian Church will host Gloryway gospel concert at 6 p.m. Oct. 26. There will be a free-will offering.
FALL FEST: Our Lady of Mount Carmel campus of St. Pope John the XXIII Parish in Warren will host a fall festival Oct. 18 in the social hall, 29 Erie St., Niles. An arts and craft show will run 10 am to 3 p.m. under the large tent. Food from the summer festival will be served 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and again 5 to 10 p.m. inside the social hall. Youngstown’s Total Package Band will perform 6 to 10 p.m. under the band tent.
RED MASS: Bishop David Bonnar of the Diocese of Youngstown will preside at the annual Red Mass at 12:10 p.m. Oct. 23 at St. Columba Cathedral. A luncheon and program will follow. The annual event is for all men and women involved in legal and judicial professions in the six counties of the Diocese of Youngstown and is sponsored by the Thomas More Society.
The event highlights how essential those involved in the judicial and legal professions are for the common good. There is a cost for the luncheon and registration is required. REUNION CELEBRATION: St. Mark’s Victory Lutheran Church, 280 Millcreek Drive, Youngstown, will host a reunion celebration at 11 a.m. Oct. 18. The Rev. Hosea Ekong, former pastor of Victory Lutheran Church, is preaching the sermon and the Rev. Robert Wacker of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Warren is conducting the liturgy. All past and present members are invited to the special service conducted by Wacker.
FIRST FRIDAY CLUB: The First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown Speaker Series will be at noon Nov. 6 at Avion on the Water Banquet Center, 2177 W. Western Road, Canfield. Guest speaker is Sister Valerie Lucky, OSB, who will present “Conversion of Heart in a Suffering Society.”
Lucky is a Benedictine Sister of Erie and the director of Emmaus Ministries, the Benedictine outreach to Erie’s poor. As director, she oversees Emmaus Soup Kitchen, which serves approximately 200 guests each night; a food pantry; the Kid’s Café, where dozens of children are fed dinner and participate in after-school programming; Emmaus Grove, an urban farm that produces thousands of pounds of fruits and vegetables each year; and a women’s advocacy program. There will be an opportunity for participants’ questions following the talk. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. with the presentation beginning at noon. The cost is $25. HALLELUJAH NIGHT: Rising Star Baptist Church, 2943 Wardle Ave., Youngstown, will host a community Hallelujah Night 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31 for children ages 5 to 12. Children can wear costumes. There will be food, a bounce house and music. The event is sponsored by the Jericho Project.
DAY OF HOPE: Local Catholic organizations will come together to commemorate the Jubilee of the Poor with an outreach event for individuals and families experiencing the effects of poverty. A “Community Day of Hope” will take place 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 15 at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish-Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 3020 Reeves Road NE, Warren. Youngstown Bishop David J. Bonnar will offer a blessing and engage with attendees. The Catholic Church declares a “Jubilee Year” every 25 years as a special time of grace, forgiveness and spiritual renewal. The theme of the 2025 Jubilee Year is “Pilgrims of Hope.”
PRAYING WITH COLOR: Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center will offer Praying with Color 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 1. Praying with Color is a way to pray for others and ourselves, and use scripture. It is a way to “see” our prayer.
No artistic skill or prayer expertise is needed. Paulette Kirschensteiner, HM, CZT, leads retreats incorporating art and prayer. Cost is $65, which includes the program, lunch and refreshments. Program information and registration are available at vmesc.org or call 724-964-8886.
COFFEE AND CONTEMPLATION: Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center offers Coffee and Contemplation at 10 a.m. Oct. 21. This series focuses on a variety of spiritual and holistic topics. The program provides participants with input from a presenter and includes time for reflection and discussion. Janet Burkhart will present this month’s session in person and via Zoom 10 a.m. to noon.
