WARREN --- Shawn Hope was sentenced to 44 years to life today for the December 2016 aggravated murder of John Paul Kellar and the kidnappings of Tabitha Powell and Alicia Binion from a Stephens Avenue NW, Warren, home. Hope, 51, was found guilty on two counts of aggravated murder with firearm specifications, aggravated robbery with a firearm specification, two counts of kidnapping with firearm specifications, having weapons under disability because of a previous felony and tampering with evidence. Following last week's announcement that General Motors' Lordstown Complex will cut its second shift in mid-June, the company today filed a WARN Act notice with Trumbull County Job and Family Services stating that 1,289 production workers, 151 tradesmen, and 60 salaried workers would be affected by the layoff. The WARN Act (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act) requires employers to give employees at least 60 days' notice of a mass layoff. LORDSTOWN - Workers leaving the Lordstown General Motors plant following this afternoon's plantwide meeting told reporters the plant's second shift has been eliminated. This follows last year's elimination of the third shift at the plant. About 3,000 workers had still been employed at the facility's assembly and stamping plants. WARREN - Convicted killer Austin Burke will serve 58 years in prison after he was sentenced this morning on multiple counts in two separate Trumbull County Common Pleas Courtrooms. Common Pleas Court Judge Andrew Logan sentenced Burke, 19, of Bristolville to serve 47 years for the aggravated murder of Brandon Sample and the armed robbery of Pizza Joe's restaurant in Cortland, which occurred in June 2017.
