Breaking news: Commissioners Denny Malloy and Tony Bernard passed a resolution giving Palmer Energy and CCAO a blank check to pass on higher utility costs for electric and gas aggregation to county residents without a public notice — no public hearings, no competitive bidding. Ohio law requires as much; Malloy failed to disclose he is a committee member of CCAO and should have recused himself from voting. Malloy and Bernard must answer to their constituents. DEAR EDITOR: The state of Ohio found the resources (unclaimed funds) to give the Haslams $600 million (free) to help build a new stadium for the Browns, but could only cough up a few pennies to feed the hungry in Ohio. I believe this same resource should be used to supplement SNAP, seeing how this money is from the people of Ohio; however, this is what can be expected when you have a state led by Republicans. DEAR EDITOR: Before it became the White House, it was called “the President’s House.” George Washington selected the site to renovate, upgrade or change the way every president has since 1792. Period. President Taft had a Victorian obsession in 1881, with a Tiffany window in front. In 1902, Theodore Roosevelt got rid of that and added the West Wing and a tennis court. DEAR EDITOR: The World Jewish Congress has given its highest recognition, the Theodor Herzl Award, to Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), primarily for his support for Israel. DEAR EDITOR: The Diocese of Youngstown’s (Bishop Bonnar’s) new ban on funeral visitations inside church buildings, effective Dec. 1, 2025, is being sold as a matter of “decorum” and respect for sacred space. I was raised Catholic, and went to Catholic school from kindergarten through college.
