Pasta cookoff to benefit Heart Walk

PASTA COOKOFF TO HELP HEART ASSOCIATION: The 11th annual pasta cookoff and wine-tasting will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Blessed Sacrament Parish Covelli Gymnasium, 3020 Reeves Road N.E., Warren. Local restaurants and amateur chefs compete for the People’s Choice Award while amateur winemakers compete for the gold award. Proceeds benefit the American Heart Association Heart Walk. Pre-sale tickets are available at the parish. Cost is $13 for adults and $6 for children 11 and younger. Family prices also are available. Tickets at the door are slightly higher. VIGIL TO HELP BATTLE HUNGER: First Unitarian Universalist Church, 1105 Elm St., Youngstown, will take part in a vigil today through Saturday fighting global hunger for children with malnutrition in different parts of the world. The vigil on the church grounds is part of People Fighting Famine to raise awareness and educate the public.

CLOTHING GIVEAWAY OFFERED: The Leavittsburg Church of God, 610 S. Leavitt Road, is hosting a free clothing giveaway from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. The giveaway is open to the public.

HELPING A CHILD: “It Takes A Village – The Jacob Sypert Benefit” will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Reserve Banquet Center (former Knights of Columbus Hall) in McDonald. The event will be held in honor of Jacob Sypert, a 9-year-old student at Roosevelt Elementary School in McDonald. He has recently been diagnosed with leukemia for the second time and is in need of a bone marrow transplant. The fundraiser will help offset the expenses of Sypert’s medical treatments and his parents’ travel expenses to and from Akron Children’s Hospital.
