Penguin City Brewing to host St. Valentine’s Day Massacre

YOUNGSTOWN — Local trainer Jack Loew and his South Side Boxing Club will present their 10th St. Valentine’s Day Massacre fight card, a 12-bout, all-amateur event set for Saturday at Penguin City Brewing in downtown Youngstown.

Cardinal Mooney’s Chris Vass of Loew’s SSBC will put his 10-1 mark on the line when he goes up against Julian Dolin of Cleveland in the night’s main event.

Dolin, who is 6-3 overall, has two wins over former Vass opponents.

“In addition to fighters from Youngstown, we have boxers from Akron, Ashtabula, Cleveland, Detroit, Lorain and Pennsylvania, as well as Canada,” Loew said. “It will be an action-packed night and an evenly paired card, with boxers ranging from 75 to 170 pounds. I am most excited for Chris [Vass] and his fight, because Julian [Dolin] has faced and beaten two of his former opponents. Julian is a straight ahead pinching machine, Chris has been working hard to get ready, and it should be a remarkably interesting outcome.”

Other Loew hopefuls include Kingsley Wade, who will be going up against Daniel Hemington of Cleveland in a 78-pound scrap, Lerone Burley, who will take on Dream Hollis of Ashtabula in a 75 matchup, and Eric Triplet, who is set for Meko Darden of Cleveland in an 85-pound pairing.

The night will also feature two sets of brothers on the card with the Moore’s, who hail from Youngstown and the Speight’s, Akron natives.

An 85-pound clash will pit Jaden Moore when he meets Messiah Speight, while Jaylen Moore goes up against Cleveland’s Mallick Rankin, also at 85 pounds.

Tim Wallace of Youngstown Golden String Boxing Club is set to take on Tyson Davis, also of Cleveland in a 160 pound hookup, while Speight’s brother, Maurice, awaits James DeJesus of Lorain in a 130 matchup.

A total of 10 Cleveland-based boxers will enter the ring, with a 125-pound bout featuring both Ledon Morris and Yamil Vasquez hailing from the land of the Western Reserve.

Other Cleveland hopefuls include Xzavier Alpela taking on Ashtabula’s Logan Majic at 115 pounds, Isaiah Harris meeting Akron’s Braylon Henderson in a 122 pound scrap, David Payne getting ready for Detroit’s Melvin Brown at 114 pounds, and at 145 pounds, Joel Thomas will go up against Sean Flesher of Ashtabula.

Antonio Hinton, also of Detroit, is set to meet Salvatore D’Amato of Pennsylvania in a 98-pound pairing.

Rounding out the card are two other up-and-coming Akron fighters.

Francis Bonner will go up against Canada’s Adam Divittorio at 135 pounds, and in a 132-pound pairing, Daben Figurio will meet Jacob Garcia of Pennsylvania.

“As usual, we have had a huge response regarding ticket sales, but several ringside seats and general admission tickets still remain,” Loew said. “The night will be memorable, I can assure you that.”

Doors open at 6 p.m. with ringside $50 and general admission seats $25. A table of eight is $400, with the first fight hitting the bell at 7 p.m.
