BOYS BASKETBALL
Carrollton 73, Salem 50 — Tayvian Johnson had 22 points to lead Carrollton. Drew Gero added 13 points and Marcus Brooks scored 11 for the Warriors. Deontay Steele and Jack Andres scored 18 and 16 points respectively for Salem.
Ashtabula St. John 50, Chalker 49 — Chase Newsome scored 18 points to lead St. John. Carter Beck added nine. For Chalker, Tegun Noble and Zachary Pack combined for 30 points with Noble scoring 17.
Alliance 47, West Branch 38 — JR Jackson had a game-high 24 points to lead Alliance. Jeremiah Thomas led West Branch with 16 points, two rebounds, and two assists. Landon Coffee also had a strong outing for the Warriors, totaling 13 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.
Maplewood 61, Bristol 54 — David Kern scored 14 to lead Maplewood. Lucas Kern and Ethan Nevinski scored 12 points each for the Rockets and Tyson Webster also reached double figures with 10 points. Colt Berry was the games leading scorer, pouring in 18 for Bristol. Logan Briggs and Parker Gall added 11 and 10 points respectively for the Panthers.
From late Friday
West Branch 59, Girard 32 — Gavin Gregory had 17 points and four rebounds for West Branch. Jeremiah Thomas was all over the stat sheet for the Warriors, totaling 12 points, seven assists, three rebounds, and two steals. Braxton Sloan led Girard with 13 points.
Ursuline 55, Cardinal Mooney 39 — Jaylen Gunther lit up the scoreboard once again, totaling 35 points to lead Ursuline over their rivals. Noah Bell added 12 points for the Irish. Gavin Sentner scored 14 to lead Mooney.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Poland 57, Pymatuning Valley 33 — Poland jumped out to an early lead, in large part due to the performance of Leanna Boccierri. Boccierri had nine first quarter points and scored 22 overall. Briella Rowe added 13 for the Bulldogs. Eralyn Lockwood scored 11 to lead Pymatuning Valley.
Ursuline 59, Cleveland VASJ 48 — Kennedy Carpenter led Ursuline with 22 points. Maizy Greene added 12 for the Irish and Carly Casey added 11. Elizabeth Dunmire led all scorers with 25 points for VASJ. CeCilia Oriani added 10 for the Vikings.
Chalker 48, Ashtabula St. John 20 — Julia Ross dropped 18 points to lead Chalker. The Wildcats also got contributions from Tatum Hudak (12 points) and Abby Grimm (11). St. John was led by Milon Johnson with eight points.
Kingsway 20, Sebring 18 — Joise Miller led Kingsway with eight points. For Sebring, Raegan Wynn led the Trojans with 12 points.
SWIMMING
Division I Sectional Championships
at C.T. Branin Natatorium
Both Austintown Fitch and Boardman had swimmers compete at the Division I Canton Sectional Championships on Saturday. As a team the Boardman boys won the meet with a total of 464 points. Samuel Pickens won the 100 meter breaststroke with a time of 1:02.97 and Zachary Mihok won the 100 meter backstroke with a time of 54.03. On the girls side, Boardman placed 3rd with 264.5 points. Individual winners for the Lady Spartans included Rachel DunLany in the 200 meter freestyle with a time of 2:01.45 and Alex Taylor in the 100 meter backstroke with a time of 58.63. The Fitch boys finished 8th with 101 points and the girls took 10th place with 39 points.
