The awards keep coming for Youngstown State quarterback Beau Brungard.
On Friday, he was named the Walter Camp’s 2025 Football Championship Subdivision Player of the Year.
Not to be confused with the Walter Payton Award, which goes to the top player in the FCS, the Walter Camp award began in 2023.
The Springfield graduate joins Montana State quarterback Tommy Mellott (2024) and Monmouth running back Jaden Sheridian (2023) as the honor’s only recipients.
It was a memorable second season for Brungard as the Penguins starting quarterback.
Brungard rushed for 1,378 yards on 225 carries with 24 touchdowns while completing 254-of-368 passes for 2,917 yards and 23 touchdowns with three interceptions.
His performance helped power a revamped YSU offense.
The Penguins finished second in the MVFC in scoring (36.6 points per game). YSU led the conference in passing yards (3,331) and total offense (5,975). It also ranked second in the league with 61 touchdowns and fourth with 2,644 yards rushing.
The junior was named the MVFC Offensive Player of the Year. He was also named a first team All-American on Wednesday by the Associated Press.
Brungard is a finalist for the Walter Payton Award. The “FCS Heisman” will be announced in Nashville, Tenn., on Jan. 3.
Taron Dickens (Western Carolina) and Cole Payton (North Dakota State) are the other two up for the subdivision’s biggest honor.
