High School Sports Roundup from Dec. 12
BOYS BASKETBALL
Windham 53, Lordstown 48 — Four Windham players scored in double figures, led by Gavin Kiser with 15 points. Ethan Thornton added 11 and Matt Kolaczek and Keegan Kiser had 10 each for the Bombers. Ganon Force led Lordstown with 20 points. Seth Chambers added 12 points, including three 3-pointers.
Columbiana 79, Leetonia 36 — Trey Snyder notched a double-double, totaling 11 points and 10 rebounds for Columbiana. Senator Johnson led the Clippers with 15 points. Ethan Mathias and Dylan Johns scored 12 each for Leetonia.
Valley Christian 56, Southern 35 — Jordan Tutwiler scored 13 and Deion Miller added four 3-pointers for Valley Christian. Jack Pitts led Southern with 13 points.
West Branch 54, Marlington 26 — Jeremiah Thomas stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, five assists, three steals, and two rebounds for West Branch. Kasen Weaver added three 3’s and Chase Gee also had nine points for the Warriors.
Maplewood 60, Badger 48 — David Kern and Steve Manes scored 15 points each for Maplewood. Badger was led by Tyler McWilliams with 13 points and Alton Winchek with 11.
Poland 63, Hubbard 58 — Carmine Tukalo scored a game high 21 for Poland. Vito Komara added 17 for the Bulldogs. Anthony Clark matched a game high 21 points to lead Hubbard.
Chaney 46, Howland 37 — Allen Hill scored 16 points and Chaney improved to 4-1. Austin Brown and Daedae Ferrell added 11 each for the Cowboys. Demetri Gentis led Howland with 10 points.
East 67, Newton Falls 35 — Tyris Davis scored 18 points to lead East. Kordae Phiper (14), Alberto Maldonado (13), and Sincere Warnex (10) also reached double figure scoring for East. Newton Falls was led by Phil Davis with 11 points.
Brookfield 73, West Middlesex 50 — Joe Hook scored 19 points, including four 3-pointers for Brookfield. Brady Smith added a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Cody Davidson had 13 points and five assists and Judah Dejoy had 11 points and four steals for the Warriors.
South Range 50, Lakeview 42 — Nick Toy and Tommy Valentine scored 11 points each for South Range. The Raiders also got 10 points each from Jack Carey and Gavin Hiscox. Isaiah Lantz had 17 for Lakeview.
Minerva 62, Salem 26 — Rowan Hoffee scored a game high 25 points for Minerva. 11 of those points came in the second quarter. Owen Shick added 11 points. Salem was led by Deontay Steele with nine points.
Struthers 47, Liberty 34 — Tommy Cole scored 21 to lead Struthers. Jimmond Moore and Ramsey Hadi-Cox scored eight each for Liberty.
Cardinal Mooney 42, St. Thomas Aquinas 34 — Kingston Powell hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 13 overall for Mooney. Grayson DuBos added 10 for the Cardinals, who held Aquinas to just eight first half points. Joran Jones led Aquinas with 11 points.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
McDonald 53, Waterloo 17 — Juliana Krumpak led McDonald with 12 points, seven assists, and five steals. Claire O’Leary added 10 points and Sophia Pecchia added eight points, 10 rebounds, and three steals.
LaBrae 72, Champion 38 — Ella Kuszmaul scored 14 of her game high 25 points in the first quarter to get LaBrae off to a hot start. Ally Magoulick added 19 for the high powered Vikings offense. Angel Scruggs also contributed with 16 points.
Chalker 37, Bristol 35 — Abby Grimm scored 18 to lead Chalker. Julia Ross added six points for the Wildcats. Bristol was led by Candence Imhoff with 11 points and Lauren Church with 10.
Mineral Ridge 41, Springfield 19 — Sullivan Sandy scored 17 points and Mineral Ridge allowed just four first half points. Gianna Gilbert added eight points for the Rams.
Newton Falls 33, Liberty 20 — At Liberty, the Tigers scattered the scoring among seven players. Madison Davis led the way with seven points, and Mia Decesare and Torrie Fanton both scored six points. For Liberty, Danelle Coleman was the leading scorer with a game-high 13 points.
