No locals advance at girls golf D-II districts
AKRON — Female golfers from around the region gathered at Good Park Golf Course on Wednesday for the Division II district championship. Unfortunately for the Mahoning Valley, the area did not see anyone advance to state.
Only the top-two teams and the top-two individuals who were not on the qualifying teams made it to state.
Columbiana had the best day out of the three area squads that competed in Akron. The Clippers finished fourth, putting up a team score of 361.
Keystone took the team title with a 339, and Chagrin Falls was the runner-up with a 351. Southeast was third, finishing with a 357.
“Our expectation as a team was to be around 360. We shot 361,” Columbiana head coach Chad Moreschi said. “We targeted as a team, individually, our No. 1 came through big time today.
“As always, you leave a few shots out there. Against this good competition, that’s all it really takes. We fell a few shots short, but overall, I’m happy with how they played.”
Maddie Jackson is the Clippers’ No. 1, and she lived up to the responsibility by shooting an 81 to lead the team.
“It’s a personal best for her,” Moreschi said. “Pretty close to a school record. I’d have to check it, but it was a fantastic round for her today.”
Claire Banner was second on the team with a 91, Hannah Moffett added a 94 and Alyssa Kakavros and Victoria Buckingham both shot 95.
Champion combined for 388 to finish eighth and Lakeview shot 391 for 10th.
Champion’s Avery Robinette had the best individual day amongst the locals. She led the Golden Flashes with an 80.
Brilea Woods shot an 84 for the Flashes, Leah Hendrick was third on the team with a 110 and Olivia Boggs was Champion’s final official score with a 114.
Lakeview’s top golfer was Olivia Norris, who ended the afternoon with an 85. Madeline Isenberg was second for the Bulldogs after registering a 93, Parker Morris was third with a 106 and Delaney Godfrey was right behind with a 107.

West Branch’s Isabella Linger shot an 85, Cardinal Mooney’s Katie Pregibon finished with an 89, Maplewood’s Claire Urcheck ended with a 96 and Girard’s Ally Gassman carded a 99.
