YOUNGSTOWN — Dwayne Cohill would not be denied.

Youngstown State’s senior guard scored 25 points, 23 after halftime, to lead the Penguins to a thrilling 77-73 victory over Oakland on Friday at the Beeghly Center.

The win completes a season sweep of the Golden Grizzlies.

YSU (16-6, 8-3 Horizon League) led 38-37 at halftime, and grew its lead to as large as nine during the second half. But a hot shooting night for Oakland (9-13, 7-4 Horizon League) kept the visitors in it. OU sank 12 of 24 shots from 3-point range, paced by a 5-for-11 night from Jalen Moore. He finished with a game-high 27 points.

Moore had an opportunity to tie the game late with the score 76-73, but a 3-point shot rimmed off with just under 9 seconds to play, and Oakland was forced to begin fouling.

Malek Green hit the front end of a 1-and-1 at the other end to put the game away.

Brandon Rush scored 12 points for YSU, while Adrian Nelson had 11 points and nine rebounds. Green finished with 10 points.

For Oakland, Keaton Hervey scored 12, while Rocket Watts and Blake Lampman each had nine.

Starting at $3.23/week.
