The state swim meet was held at C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton this past week, with the finals taking place Friday and Saturday. The Springfield girls were the top finishers from the area, tying for ninth with 85 points in Division II. Canfield was 38th with 10, Howland tied for 49th with six and Poland was 53rd with four. More than 100 area wrestlers clinched a spot in a district tournament with a top-four placing at the various sectionals this past weekend. Of those qualifiers, 21 won a sectional title. Champion boys place 14th at state bowling tournament

The Division II bowling championships took place on Friday night at HP Lanes in Columbus. The Champion boys took 14th with a score of 3,421. Two locals placed in the top 11 on the boys’ side. Champion senior Mario Humenik finished fifth with a 662 and Chalker sophomore TJ Williams ended the day in 11th with a 645. For the rest of the Golden Flashes, Kyle Kolat scored 571 for 32nd, Gavin Torok was 74th with a 466 and George Smith came in 85th with a 310. BOYS BASKETBALL Sectional Finals Poland 66, Girard 47 — Poland jumped out to a 15-5 first quarter lead and never let Girard get within reach. Carmine Tukalo scored 31 to lead the Bulldogs.
