The Warren JFK football program has found its next head coach, and the Eagles didn’t have to look far.
John F. Kennedy announced Wednesday morning that Damon Buente has been selected as the next head football coach. He’ll take over for Dom Prologo, who resigned at the beginning of February.
“I am thrilled that Damon will take the reins of the Kennedy Football Program,” JFK president Joseph Kenneally said. “A number of talented coaches applied for this position and, ultimately, we believe Coach Buente is the person to guide our program into the future. I appreciate the fact that he has an established relationship with our players and program continuity for our team was critical in our decision process. Coach Buente will continue our proud tradition of teaching players to be leaders of courage, integrity, and dedication on the field and in the classroom.”
Buente has 11 years of varsity experience as a strength and conditioning coach, and offensive coordinator and has also coached on both sides of the ball during his career. He spent time at both Canfield and Western Reserve and was an assistant for the Eagles this past season.
“I am forever grateful for the mentorship and guidance that Coach Prologo gave to me and my peers,” Buente said. “While growing up, I gave him every reason to give up on me as a player and he never did. How lucky I am to pick up the torch at a program like JFK. I’m very fortunate and excited to get to work with our team.”
Buente graduated from Miami University in 2012 and has taught both high school and junior high at Western Reserve Local Schools since 2014. HE serves as a member of the District Autism Awareness team and Trauma Informed Care team.
