How do people keep supporting Trump?

DEAR EDITOR: I simply cannot understand how people can stand behind Trump in their MAGA merch and behave as though chaos is not playing out all around them. I ask myself “are these people stupid? Are they purposefully ignorant of cataclysmic events occurring in this country and the middle east? Do they not see how gas prices, food prices have exploded as a result of the chaos created by their beloved criminal in chief?” I am asking everyone reading my letter to use your God given intelligence and discernment to go beyond the bold faced lies and think for yourselves. Every time ...

Silent attacks on personal freedom

During the first Trump administration, the FBI quietly spent $5 million on Pegasus, an Israeli-developed software product known generically as zero click. Zero click permits the user to download the contents of another mobile or desktop device without tricking the user of that device into clicking on a viral link. When FBI Director Christopher Wray was confronted with evidence of this purchase in 2021, he stated under oath at a congressional hearing that his agents did not and would not use it; but they bought it because they wanted to understand how it worked. He claimed that it was ...

Belmont Park Cemetery needs help

DEAR EDITOR: Thank you to the Tribune and Vindicator for recent coverage of Belmont Park Cemetery. The story drew needed attention to the cemetery’s need for assistance — most urgently the preservation of the historic mausoleum. About a year ago, state law required Liberty Township to assume responsibility for the cemetery after the association could no longer afford maintenance. The township is committed to caring for the grounds, but trust earnings and minimal burial fees don’t cover major capital projects. The mausoleum (about 4,500 square feet, roughly 500 vaults and a ...

The energy policy we could have had

Oil, oil, oil. The war with Iran has oil prices soaring. And no thanks, President Trump, for your other war, the one against green energy. As Americans freak over gas prices, they are taking another look at electric vehicles. But guess what? Most domestic automakers dropped ambitious investments toward that end, leaving car lots bereft of these gasoline-replacing vehicles, at least American-made ones. It didn’t have to be that way. Barack Obama and Joe Biden launched serious programs to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. Trump trashed those ambitious plans to bring Americans ...

Don’t be fooled by Trump’s tax numbers

DEAR EDITOR: When will taxpayers realize that getting a refund is only getting back the money that they overpaid to the IRS? President Donald Trump is just using the refund as a cover-up for the tax changes benefitting the highest earners. Sixty-two percent of the tax advantages will go to those earning between $65,388 and $261,591, and 14% of the benefits will go to the top 5% of earners. Only 6% of the benefits go to the bottom 40% of earners. DONNA NASSER Sharon, Pa.

Should America have a red line?

President Trump has acted as no other president has by unleashing a war on Iran whose objective is not only preventing the ayatollahs from ever building a nuclear weapon but ideally (though unmentioned) replacing the fanatics with leaders more friendly to Israel and the West and delivering freedom and prosperity to the Iranian people. With two more terrorist attacks last week — one at Old Dominion University in Virginia and the other at a synagogue and Jewish school in Dearborn, Michigan, is it time to talk of terrorists crossing a red line in this country? How many more terrorist ...
