DEAR EDITOR: Welfare is not a lifetime paycheck! It should be available for 5 years only. When FDR and LBJ passed a law for welfare it was meant for single moms and widows. During Ronald Reagan term he did significant “cuts” to Medicaid, welfare and food stamps. Why? Fewer people wanted to work. In 1964 there were only 9% of children living in single families, today 38.1 million.
