Sound off!
Another reminder of Catholic priest abuse is in the Tribune this morning. This time it involves Bishop Thomas Tobin, the ex-bishop here in Youngstown. Will this ever stop? Back to Ohio. The church wants the Ursuline state civil cases dropped. How despicable! And the diocese want the federal cases left at the fed level. Why? So the cases can be swept under the rug there. Parishioners should quit contributing to the perverted organization until ALL parties are held responsible.

The most un-presidential president in American history has referred to the half of Americans who didn’t vote for him and a majority of our allies as “lunatics.” It only took a decade for a majority of humanity to become decisively anti-Trump. Therefore, based on the dictionary definition of “lunatic” (an extremely reckless, eccentric and irrational person), it appears rational to contend that DJT is himself a lunatic.

I watch the Trumbull County commissioners meetings and heard Commissioner Malloy bring up doubling the Homestead Exemption to relieve some of the tax burden on property owners. That is all well and good, but now that township trustees and school superintendents have made it clear that this will decrease their income and are resisting, he is backsliding. It seems he is rethinking where the most votes lie since he is up for reelection. With other government officials or the taxpayers?

After three years with Denny Malloy in office, we still have no dog pound, coroner’s office or 911 center and our buildings are falling apart. Now he wants to fix it. Elected officials should do their homework and do their job at all times, not just election time.

The Democrat Party used to be “The People’s Party”! Where have they gone? All they care about is fighting Trump. They don’t care about the people any longer! By shutting down the Department of Homeland Security, they have turned their backs on the American citizens and have put the country in Danger!!! Remember this AT VOTING TIME, and send them a message! VOTE THEM ALL OUT!!!!

Much respect to Pediatrician, Dr. John Vlad, on his column concerning the importance of being vaccinated. More doctors need to stand up against the anti vaccine rhetoric. It’s hurting our children.

The women’s basketball team of Howard University has refused to stand for the national anthem since 2020. They did the same thing when they played the U.S. Military Academy in December. This act disrespected the opposing team, the country, and all military personnel, both current and past. The team has now voted to stay in the locker room until after the anthem is played. Because of this, government subsidies given to the school should be stopped —
immediately. Enough is enough.

Someplace Safe, a domestic violence shelter for women, had a wonderful fundraiser last weekend. It was marred by the grotesquely inappropriate presence of Devon Stanley, who was recently arrested for the alleged assault of his wife — a second-degree felony. Attending a domestic violence event to further your campaign for judge while simultaneously standing accused of domestic violence is an insult to everyone at that fundraiser and all of the people working toward justice.

I read where the Mathews superintendent will be retiring soon. Now would be the perfect time for the school board to look into sharing with another district and saving the taxpayers money on a full salaried superintendent.

Not all Trumbull County seniors qualify for the Homestead exemption. Seniors with fixed incomes can’t compensate for rising costs, yet maintain their homes. But consider 21 school superintendents ($125k per year) $2,625,000. 70 school principals ($105k per year) $7,350,000, 25 police chiefs($93k per year) $2,325,000, 20 fire chiefs ($93k per year) $1,860,000 for a subtotal of $14,180,000. Imagine other administrative costs too numerous to illustrate. Perhaps consolidation into precinct county services would save administrative costs and help fix the property tax crisis.

Operation Epic Fury is the name given for the attacks on Iran. It seems these attacks were ordered to cover up American economic policy failures. After a year of on-again, off-again, on-again tariffs, a smack down by the Supremes that tariffs are illegal and no signs of better conditions for the American population, the current administration had to do something major to deflect from their American affordability disaster. I would suggest they rename the current economic policy: Operation Epic Failure.

I notice when reading SoundOff that most people who are left leaning can’t write a letter without insults and hatred. Why can’t they express their beliefs with respect for others’ beliefs? They don’t give facts, just repeat the left’s talking points. As a registered Independent I look for what a politician is saying, not the vitriol that they say for the radicals on either side. It seems the Democrats are far worse in how they write and show their hatred. You don’t have to agree with someone to be respectful.

BILLIONS and billions will be spent on this war, $220 million for ads alone featuring the grandstanding Noem, plus millions for her jet trips. ICE, incalculable billions and billions. Mar-a-lago trips, who knows, and in Texas the elections already cost over $100 million. Can you imagine the amount that will be spent “nationwide” just trying to win an election? Kennedy Center $200 million redo, ballroom. $400 million probably much more, Arc, $200 million. Dulles, re-do?. Lincoln bathroom, all marble? To accomplish all of this, the very “needed” will be axed and so many more people will suffer.

Maybe the side benefits from Ayatollah Trump’s war on (fill in the blank) have taken root as evidenced by other countries’ campaigns to wipe out the “bad” guys from their soil. A good example has been the Mexican government’s crackdown on a powerful drug cartel in the state of Jalisco, where security forces killed the “bad” guys. Of course, Israel didn’t need to take a cue from Trump to start its attacks on Iran and other neighboring adversaries.

If the U.S. war on Iran and its nuclear-bomb ambitions emboldens spinoff operations by other nations to protect their national security, then go for it. Just be careful who you attack — and not without a good reason — because China is waiting in the wings and watching the developments. No one wants war, but sometimes preemptive strikes clear the air to prevent future problems.
