Sound off!

Wake up, Warren. I watched the traffic meeting concerning the closure of Dana Street. The owner, Chris Alan, is nothing but an arrogant, entitled shyster who promised 1,000 jobs and has produced maybe 10. Also, he owes back property taxes of $209,000 on Dana and $113,000 on Griswold property. So is this going to be Chill Can 2.0??

The incident at Harding with a student assaulting a principal over a cellphone is an example of one of the problems in schools: rules. In this case, no cellphones are to be used in a classroom. Problem? The student chose not to follow the rules. Result? The juvenile assaulted the principal who was following the rules. The juvenile was taken to JJC. Since this was an assault on a school administrator, that juvenile should be expelled.

Who is responsible for a shutdown? For the past eight months, we have watched our leader threaten “his own” party members who vote against him. He has done this in public and who knows what happens in private? Our founders set up our government to avoid these types of actions but our current leader has figured out a way around it. If this “mob-style rule” continues, it’s pretty obvious to me and should be to you, who is responsible.

It appears to me that Warren oversold its ability to provide the infrastructure to handle the needs of a new business. What a shame. Your choice is to fix the basic issues, admit your errors and do a better job next time. You should know better than to make promises you can’t deliver. You’ve inconvenienced your voting neighbors, the city and damaged your reputation in the process.

Dana Street should remain closed. The excuses are not really valid, as trucks are using Griswold servicing the other companies in that area. When we had Packard and GE, there was plenty of vehicle and pedestrian traffic that kept traffic at a normal level, that’s not true today. Opening Dana will create a race track. We already have Atlantic, Washington Elm and North Park as racetracks. Eight years is a long time, but Dana should remain closed until Paige Street gets realigned and the business gets up and running.

Charlie Kirk wasn’t a saint, hero or bad guy. He was simply someone who got attention on the national stage for his rhetoric, good or bad. If you wanted to listen to him or not, it was your choice. It is called free speech! Trump wants to forget that Charlie espoused releasing the Epstein files, so Trump is using him instead to deflect your attention to what he calls the radical left. Anything to prevent the release of these probable incriminating files.

“Data Center” is like a room of wall-to-wall floor to ceiling computers generating a tremendous amount of heat. It takes a MASSIVE amount of electricity to power and cool. For maybe 50 jobs. Energy Harbor was 4.3 kwh then became Dynegy, which contracted Trumbull County aggregate 7.8 kwh rate until March 2026. Without a designated power plant, residents’ will pay for shared cost of data center. Residents demand county commissioners show a transparent plan for electric services now.

Sunday, Oct. 12 at 3 p.m. marks the 70th Anniversary Concert of the W.D. Packard Band. Warren is so fortunate to be one of only a handful of communities in America to enjoy a year-round, salaried PROFESSIONAL concert band, performing magnificent musical literature in its very own 2,000- seat Packard Music Hall! As the cost of concert and sports tickets has skyrocketed, Packard Band admission has held steady at ZERO — thanks to the generosity of Mr. Packard, its proud hometown benefactor. The expertise of the band is ASTONISHING with one rehearsal per concert. Big-city, professional quality! The hall should rightly be packed, but sadly it’s not even close. In an unsettled world, Warren’s musical treasure is here to provide respite and hope.

Households that voted for Republican politician Dave Thomas now have support-the-police levy signs in their front yards. Dave, Nick Santucci and Tex Fischer all propose property tax cuts that would defund police, fire, roads and schools, and they have no realistic replacement plan. The three youngsters got swept into office when our area shifted toward Republicans,

but it seems these three lack even a basic understanding of how societies function. Is it time to shift back?

Three promises to get elected: lower property taxes, lower utility costs, save our hospitals! No relief on property taxes, he increased our water rates and Trumbull and Hillside still closed! Just more of Tony Bernard’s lies to taxpayers!!

Saw in Saturday’s (Sept. 20) newspaper something about our paper being delivered with the mail. Maybe I was dreaming. Certainly hope so. The best part of my day is reading the daily paper and having a cup of coffee every morning. I really miss the Sunday edition, but I’m getting used to not having it. Please, please, please do not deliver the paper by mail.

So, Insight thinks it can reopen Trumbull Memorial Hospital. How can this be possible after being closed for so many months? It is a sad state of affairs for Trumbull County, especially when compared to Sharon Regional Hospital, also once owned by Steward, which has re-opened and is planning to expand services. Trumbull County residents are forced to visit overworked and overwhelmed St. Joseph Hospital. Where is the leadership? Where is the direction? Where is the hope?

Forty-seven was at the United Nations for a “come together” meeting. He turns it into a domestic campaign speech filled with lies and grievances. There was the belittling of other countries and he claims Climate Change is a scam. He embarrassed this country with his rhetoric. Why wouldn’t a president try to clean up rivers, the air etc.? He cries about why people do not like him. Hmmm.

The Democratic Party has historically demanded gun control after high-profile shootings. After recent shootings, Trump shot at twice, Steve Scalise shot, Charlie Kirk assassinated and ICE agents in Dallas shot at, we should take the guns away from Democrats. This would certainly bring the death rate down.

Promises: Save the American dream for regular people. Rebellion against cancel culture. An end to entanglement in foreign wars. Constitutional clarity interpreting the Constitution as it was originally intended. Delivered: Historic tax cuts to billionaires while gutting programs for needy families. A Project 2025 GOP party of cancel culture. Instigating 100s of trade wars and alienating allies all while bombing the nations with the greatest proven oil reserves? Finally, a peacetime POTUS openly questioning if he has to follow America’s Supreme Laws.

Stop the coverup, Catholic diocese! From priests, now coaches and boys acting inappropriately. ALL of the Ursuline football coaches should receive lifetime coaching bans from the OHSAA and the diocese. And where are the criminal charges, YPD? You have sons on the team? Videos are pretty simple evidence! Hazing this is not. This is sexual assault! Stop the COVERUP!
