Trumbull commissioners waste $600,000 on vehicle

DEAR EDITOR:

Recently, the Tribune Chronicle reported on the $600,000 purchase of a Mobile Emergency Command Vehicle (MECV). This purchase was approved by all three of last year’s Trumbull County commissioners. I have been waiting for the Tribune to do a poll of its readers to see how they felt about it. Apparently they did not care to know.

In my opinion this has to be one of the worst expenditures the county ever made. The county emergency manager gave two examples of when the MECV could have been used. They were five and nine years ago. Nothing in the last five years?

The county residents involved in those incidents got by without the MECV. The county lacks the personnel and facilities to properly train operators and maintain this equipment so it would be available when an emergency occurs.

This $600,000 of federal money could have been better spent. Maybe they could have a half-price sale and put the $300,000 to better use.
