Sound off!

It is sad that we have a president so shallow that he needs constant flattery. Anyone fawning over Trump exposes our country’s weakness to the rest of the world. He lies profusely and is indecisive and wishy-washy in the safety of our country. The EU leaders accompanying Zelenskyy played Trump for all he is worth, bolstering his ego. If Trump waits much longer Putin will have taken all of Ukraine, planning his next move into another country.

There are 500,000 people living in Ohio who live in areas where the crime rate exceeds that of Washington, D.C. Why in the world are we sending Ohio National Guardsmen to Washington, D.C.? Ooops, you know why!

It is good to see that Cortland is waking up to the problems in city hall — caused by the mayor during the past several months. There are petitions being circulated to recall-remove the mayor from office. If you live in Cortland, please help get the city operations back on track by signing when asked.

Last week I saw a small school will offer free student admission to sports. Today I see Austintown doing the same. Good job on the thinking. Kinda makes me wonder why these were ever thought of as money-making events. All student functions SHOULD be free to those in attendance in the school district. The more involved the better for all! If the kids are not involved, what ARE they doing?

Basketball players sometimes accomplish a triple-double in points /rebounds / assists, but two Cleveland Browns players registered a double-triple in the last few months – the most recent on Aug. 9, when defensive end Myles Garrett was stopped by Strongsville police on I-71 for going 100 mph. Not to be outdone was rookie QB Shedeur Sanders, who was clocked at 101 mph on the same stretch of road on June 17.

Recent letter writer asked, “Do you know who Trump is yet?” MAGA knows who he is and they don’t care. He fuels their hatred and that’s all that matters. They are trying to destroy democracy. The Nazi mentality is descending upon them. It’s pathetic and just very, very sad. The president should be uniting the country, not destroying it.

So, Tim Ryan is considering a run for the governorship. He did very little when he was a congressman, so why would voters even consider him to be a viable candidate for the state’s highest office? Do everyone a favor, Tim; just stay home and continue with your current job. Let true leaders do the heavy lifting.

The advertisement in Thursday’s Ticket (Aug. 14) for Station Square’s wine & balsamic tasting was a little hard to figure out. I’m sure the food is wonderful, since Station Square has a fantastic reputation, but I don’t know what it is. If you’re Italian you know, but I’m not, so I’m not going to go.

Yet another balloon release is to be held to honor the memory of someone who recently died. These releases should be outlawed! When the balloons deflate, they become a detriment to the environment and endanger animals. Find another way, a safer way, to memorialize a loved one.

Several untruths in weekend Soundoffs. Writer says Trump is destroying due process. Where was Trump’s due process in his trials? Judges Merchan and Kaplan would silence his attorneys, deny them access to evidence and submitting evidence. Illegals are being processed within days unlike Biden’s years.Ford is building electric cars in Canada because the minerals needed are abundant in Ontario. Facts matter. Don’t just drink the Kool-Aid.

Kudos to the commissioner for questioning the Coalburg lake proposal. The dam is in disrepair and the trustees don’t want the dam, so who will maintain the dam? If it breaks all you have left is a hole in the ground. If Hubbard wants a park, let Hubbard pay for it. If Metroparks takes over they will want more tax dollars to maintain it, but they can’t maintain what they have now. Don’t waste county tax dollars that could be put to use elsewhere.

Here come the two losers pondering Ohio politics again, Sherrod Brown and Tim Ryan. Voters soundly defeated them and said good riddance to their politics and now they think they are wanted. Voters are tired of their lying politics, pretending to care about working people. Ask the Delphi salaried retirees how they feel about these two weasels. Ask most union people that booted them out how they feel. Don’t forget the decline of the Valley under Brown and Ryan, and keep them OUT!
