DEAR EDITOR:

It grieves me deeply that we have become a country where human lives, those of the immigrants in our country, are so expendable and treated like dirt, placed in horrific, unimaginable and dreadful conditions, basically steel cages, like those for animals that this administration is so proud of, with parents separated from children, many of whom may never see their parents again.

It happened in Trump’s first administration, and it is happening again. Yes, there are many illegals that should be deported, but they are in the minority, and so many who are contributing to our country in many jobs that are very necessary, actually those that many Americans do not want.

Children are the world’s most valuable resource, and to lose just “one” is criminal, much less the thousands being deported, many to countries either without their parents or where their future is scary and unknown. Some, if not many, will never survive. Who will care for these children?

These crimes are on the adults, and I use that term loosely as this administration has shown juvenile tendencies in its quest for power, many “celebrities” totally unprepared for their new positions in our government. I am sure many have children of their own and would never think that this could happen to their family. Why should any child from any other nation anywhere in the world suffer this inhumanity and lose either their family or their life?

Yes, there are children in our own country neglected and many beaten and placed in dangerous conditions because of careless and neglectful parents. This is evidenced by several children killed recently in Youngstown. This crime is on them, too. In years past, I was a pediatric nurse, school nurse and CASA/GAL. I witnessed first-hand what terror and beatings can do to a child, and I have met parents unprepared to be parents.

Until we see children as vitally important to the future of our country, we will never see immigrant children as just as important also. They, too, are humans.
