Levy funds should stay where intended
DEAR EDITOR:
I am a senior who is fortunate to be able to take part in many of the opportunities at more than one of the SCOPE centers. I’m still very mobile, but not well to do! My physical, mental and financial health benefits from the many programs offered in close proximity to my home. I expressed my gratitude with my positive vote when the levy was on the ballot.
My question is how can the Trumbull County commissioners take funds solicited as going to fund senior centers, and then, after it’s passed, divert it elsewhere? Cutting funding to our centers and threatening to close some, just can’t be right! Is that even legal? The value of social, physical and financial help to so many seniors diminishes the need for more funds to meet later needs for total care!
Trumbull County has been the model of success in elderly services. How can we take a step backward when we’ve come this far?
