We need a solution for dog pound space

DEAR EDITOR:

The Trumbull County Dog Pound is bursting at the seams. As of Sept. 27, 17 dogs were in the indoor kennels, 11 in outdoor kennels, six in crates and one at the veterinary hospital — 35 dogs in total!

Temperatures are dropping and soon it will be below freezing. The executive dog warden has worked wonders with the influx of dogs, but now it’s crunch time. Where are the dogs in outside kennels going to be housed when cold weather hits? Rescues and other shelters are just as full. It’s time that Commissioners Fuda, Cantalamessa and Frenchko step up to the plate with a solution. And we need it now. At a commissioners meeting four years ago, I asked about new housing for the dogs, and I was told it was in the works. Nothing has happened. This is unacceptable and beyond ridiculous.

I and many others would like to know what commissioners plan on doing so healthy dogs won’t be euthanized for space.

We want and need answers now.
