He was born Sept. 22, 1941, in Warren, a son of the late Donald W. and Althea Daugherty Fahndrich Sr.

Donald graduated from Warren G. Harding High School Class of 1959 and was drafted into the United States Navy in August of that same year; he was honorably discharged in September 1962. He married the love of his life, Doreen E. Hiestand, on Aug. 1, 1964; they met each other when they were 13 years old at Lake Milton; sadly, after 47 years together, she passed March 12, 2012.

Following his service, Donald started working for John Hancock as an insurance agent and retired after 30 years. He went on to be the owner and operator of his own commercial and residential cleaning company, Shenango Valley Cleaning Services.

Donald was a very hard worker. He enjoyed working in his yard. He and his wife loved to travel and spent their summers at their home at Lake Milton.

He leaves to cherish the memories of him, his daughter, Anissa D. (Paul) Knapik of Boardman; his son, Christopher S. (Carina) Fahndrich of Fowler; his grandchildren, Ryan Knapik, Kristin (Hunter) Corne and Karissa (Adam) Boots; and his great-grandchildren, Loretta, Lincoln and Charlotte.

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sisters-in-law, Carrie Fahndrich and Shirley Hiestand.

The family has requested material tributes be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Hospice of the Valley.
