Antonio Bario 1939-2026
HOWLAND — Antonio Bario, 87, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday morning, July 5, 2026.
Antonio was born Jan. 4, 1939, in Vieste, Italy, the son of the late Giovanni and Teresina Ricci Bario.
As a young man, Antonio was a nationally recognized competitive swimmer who proudly competed for the Italian Carabinieri. He then pursued a career as a photographer and owned his own business, Fotografia Bario, before embarking on a new chapter in 1976 when he immigrated to the United States with his family. They made their home in Warren, where Antonio built a life centered on hard work, faith and family. He enjoyed a long career in manufacturing, first at Warren Fabricating, then Copperweld and ITT Grinell, and then retired from the Carlisle Corporation.
Antonio was a man of remarkable skill and determination. He had an extraordinary ability to build, repair and restore just about anything, earning him the affectionate reputation as the family’s “master fixer.” An accomplished woodworker, he took great pride in creating beautiful pieces with his hands. He also found joy in tending his garden and especially cherished caring for his beloved fig trees, which reminded him of his Italian roots.
Above all else, Antonio’s greatest pride was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, whose quiet strength, generosity and unwavering love left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. His wisdom, work ethic and gentle spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Antonio will always be remembered by his beloved wife, Filomena Mariani Bario; his children, Teresa (Michael) Humm of Cortland and John (Danielle) Bario of Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina; his grandchildren, Krystin (Steve) Georgalas, Teresa (David) Bario-Walters, Antonia Bario, Giovanna Bario and Nicoletta Bario; his great-grandchildren, Olivia, Oliver and Winnie; his sisters, Marisa Bario Renn (Robert) and Franca Bario Calugar (George); and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Besides his parents, Antonio was preceded in death by his son, Carlo Antonio Bario.
