Karen Jane Sullivan
WARREN — Karen Jane Sullivan, 77, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Liberty Health Care Center.
She was born Jan. 30, 1949, in North Braddock, Pa., the daughter of the late James and Margaret Fitzgerald Westin.
A 1966 graduate of St. Thomas District School, Karen embarked on a remarkable career with the Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna, where she served with distinction in the civil engineering department for an impressive 40 years prior to her retirement.
Karen’s vivacious personality was remembered by many; some would say she was a bit bossy, a testament to her confident and commanding presence. Yet, above all else, Karen’s heart belonged to her family. She cherished her role as a loving mother and grandmother, finding special joy in spending time with her grandchildren, Paige and Bridget Elliott, and Ava Ruder.
She actively participated in her community, enjoying time at St. James Church, where she delighted in making pierogies, a craft she perfected over the years. Her creative spirit was also evident in her skillful crocheting. Karen’s compassion extended further as she dedicated many years volunteering for the American Cancer Society.
Karen is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Elliott (Joel Ruder) of New Middletown, along with her three beloved grandchildren who brought so much meaning to her life.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2026, at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish-St. James Church, 2532 Burton St., SE, Warren, OH 44484.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Liberty Healthcare and to Hospice of the Valley for their compassionate care during Karen’s final days.
Professional services are being handled by the Peter Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel. Visit www.peterrossiandsonfh.com to send condolences to the family.
