Shirley J. Binion 1937-2026

She was born Aug. 14, 1937, in Warren, a daughter of William “Tom” and Myrtle McQuinney Dawkins.

Shirley was a member of Believers Church and started working at the age of 16 as a press operator for the Niles Shirt Laundry. She worked for Valsi Cleaners, Fusco Cleaners and Cornicelli Cleaners for 20 years. She was a very dedicated and hard worker.

Shirley’s world revolved around her family and friends, cheering on her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. She enjoyed yearly trips to Florida to visit family, swinging on the front porch swing and visiting with family and friends for hours. She also enjoyed watching Westerns on TV.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Hazel Lee Binion, whom she married May 17, 1954; her three daughters, Carolyn Rossi, Sandy (Tom) Clark and Brenda Binion; a brother, Bob Dawkins; her sister, Joyce Crosby; six grandchildren, Patrick Rossi (Amanda Zepernick), Jeanine (Mike) Rossi-Kerrigan, Stacy (Brian) Greenawalt, Mackenzie (Josh) Howard, Derek (Tiffany) Clark and Joseph (Alix) Soda; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Bill Dawkins, Merwin Dawkins and John Dawkins; two sisters, Edna Holton and Myrtle Palmer; and her son-in-law, Patrick Rossi.

Funeral services will begin 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Holloway-Williams Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 611 Robbins Ave., Niles, OH 330-652-2422.

Family and friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Shirley’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
