Richard E. Leiby 1928-2026
WARREN — Richard E. Leiby, 97, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Shepherd of the Valley.
He was born May 14, 1928, in Southington, a son of the late Calvin and Althea Johnson Leiby. On April 7, 1951, he married Marilyn J. Weller.
He was a graduate of Southington High School and was employed for 42 years as a service manager at Sears.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Germany during the Korean War.
Richard was a member of First United Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon emeritus, a Sunday school teacher and a choir singer.
He enjoyed fishing, listening to music, golfing, including in the senior league at Tamer Win, and watching the grandchildren in all their activities. Richard enjoyed traveling and was proud of visiting all 50 states. He was an avid Cleveland Browns and Indians / Guardians fan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Marilyn Leiby of Warren; son, Mark (Kay) Leiby of Warren; daughters, Beth (Patrick) McDevitt of Medina and Kathy (Mehmet) Basaran of Columbus; brother, Randall (Ruth) Leiby; sister, Carole (Larry) Huntzinger; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Lee (Dorothy) Leiby.
Services will begin at noon Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, where Pastor Erica Brown and his grandson, Pastor Keith McDevitt, will officiate.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the noon service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Richard will be laid to rest in Crown Hill Burial Park, Vienna.
