Vanessa Haynes 1960-2026
WARREN — Vanessa Irene Smith Haynes, 65, departed this life at 7:03 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at University Hospital’s main campus, following complications of an extended illness.
She was born Sept. 16, 1960, in Warren, the daughter of Frank and Sarah Davis Smith.
She graduated in 1978 from Warren Western Reserve High School and in 2010 from Kent State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in human development and family studies. She was employed as a family advocate at TCAP for 30 years before retiring in 2004.
She was a member of Alpha and Omega Seventh-day Adventist Church and enjoyed fishing, crafts, cooking, traveling and watching Judge Judy and Joel Osteen.
She married Roosevelt Virgil Haynes III on March 2, 1983; he died May 28, 2024.
She leaves to mourn two sons, Roosevelt Virgil Haynes IV of Warren and Rawshean Haynes of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two daughters, Ms. Terri Smith of Warren and Ms. Tamika Smith of Columbus; one brother, Frank (Caprina) Smith Jr. of Warren; two sisters, Ms. Teresa (Alphonso) Streeter of Warren and Ms. Francietta Smith (who was raised as a daughter); one stepbrother, Emmett Williams of Warren; one stepsister, Ernestine (Marlon) Jones of Greenville, Pa.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one niece, Ms. Latresa Dorsey of Mentor, whom she raised; one nephew, Jimmy Ray Stella Jr. of Warren; one cousin, Ms. Stacey Thornton of Columbus; best friend, Ms. Marie Komora of Warren; and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Virgil Haynes; one brother, Derwin Cotton; one sister, Ms. Wakeelah Smith; one grandchild, Jermaine Smith; and one niece, Ms. Vontisue Patterson.
A private burial will be held in Oakwood Cemetery.
