Rolland E. Swegan 1942-2025

AURORA — Rolland E. “Rollie” Swegan passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, at his home in Aurora. He was 83 years old.

Rollie was born Sept. 24, 1942, in Niles. He attended Niles High School and then studied mathematics at Northwestern and Youngstown State universities.

He was drafted into the Army and spent a few years in Germany, where he learned German and met his wife, Karin. After the Army, Rollie and his brother, Dennis, began building a manufactured housing community in Weathersfield Township, Westwood Lake Park. Westwood eventually grew to 335 homes and was his life’s work. He was very proud of this accomplishment and owned and operated the business until 2021.

Rollie could do anything and led a full, amazing life. He played piano, banjo, tennis, golf and ping pong. He loved to ski, fish, fly airplanes and spend time on his boat on Lake Erie and Sanibel Island. He traveled to over 75 countries on six continents, including eight Olympic Games. He was a veteran and member of Rotary and donated time and money to many causes. But his true passion was always his family.

Rollie was loved and admired and was a mentor to countless friends around the world. He lived a life marked by generosity and compassion.

Rollie was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis; and sister, Cheryl (Lary). He is lovingly survived by his wife, Karin; his children, Christopher and Heidi (Tony); and six cherished grandchildren, Jakob, Madelyn, Cassie, Annabel, Alex and Audrey.

Per his wishes, there will be no funeral; a celebration of life will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rotary Club of Niles, Ohio, P.O. Box 504, Niles, OH 44446.
