Loretta J. Smith 1947-2026
NEWTON FALLS — Loretta Joan Dye Smith, 78, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on May 26, 1947, the beloved daughter of Eugene H. Dye and Betty F. Whitely Dye.
Loretta was the devoted wife and true love of Stephen A. Smith, whom she married Sept. 2, 1967; their marriage was a testament to enduring love, faith and partnership, spanning more than 58 years. Together, they co-owned and operated LS Upholstery for 43 years, building not only a successful business but also lasting relationships within their community.
Above all, Loretta cherished her family, creating a home defined by warmth, care and love.
A faithful and active member of Global Methodist Church of Newton Falls, Loretta lived her life grounded in Christian faith, service and compassion. She was known for her strong spirit, unwavering strength and caring nature.
In addition to her husband, Loretta is survived by her five loving daughters, Anne (Ron) Riggs, Julie (Mark) Stimpert, Kimberly (Matthew) Ensminger, Tina (Steven) Pagano and Kristy (Paul) Nevins. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, with more on the way. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Steve Stevens.
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene H. Dye and Betty F. Whitely Dye, and by her beloved sister, Betty Gene Dye Stevens.
A celebration of life and dinner for family and friends will be held May 26, 2026, at Newton Falls Global Methodist Church.
Loretta’s legacy of faith, love and devotion to family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
