Joseph R. Nidel 1958-2026
WARREN — Joseph R. Nidel, 67, passed away at 10:40 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, following complications of a long, courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was born Jan. 29, 1958, in Norfolk, Virginia, the son of Joseph and Eleanor Leona Killin Nidel.
He was a 1976 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and a 1989 graduate of ITT Technical Institute, where he received an associate of applied science degree in commercial engineering drafting technology.
Joe honorably served in the United States Navy on the USS Thomas C. Hart from 1978 to 1980. He worked at Ajax TOCCO Magnethermic Corporation for 22 years.
An avid fisherman and Cleveland Browns fan, Joe is remembered as a great man and even better father.
Joe is survived by two children, Dr. Joseph M. Nidel and Jenna L. Nidel, both of Cortland; sister-in-law, Ronda L. Nidel of Summit, Mississippi; niece, Elizabeth M. Nidel and nephew, Patrick T. Nidel, both of Warren; and many friends and loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Harry J. Nidel, who died Sept. 4, 2022.
A celebration of his life will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026, at Ciminero’s Banquet Centre in Niles.
Joe’s family wishes to raise awareness for lung cancer screenings that are available to eligible current and former smokers to catch the disease at its earliest stages, when it is most treatable.
In lieu of flowers, Joe would want you to spend time outdoors with the ones you love.
