James Genos 1928-2025
CHAMPION — James Genos, 97, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025, at his home.
He was born Aug. 14, 1928, in Yorkville, a son of Anastasios and Catherine Genos.
James was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and furthered his education at Youngstown State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. James entered the United States Air Force on Sept. 6, 1946, in Cleveland, and was honorably discharged on July 15, 1949. He received the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan.
He worked as an accountant for the IRS for over 30 years. Also, James was a member and nursing home ministry team leader at North Mar Church.
On Feb. 27, 1965, he married the former Martha R. Veres; they shared 60 happily married years together.
James enjoyed playing tennis and chess and playing with his grandchildren and cheering them on at their sporting events. He was also an avid fan of Cleveland sports.
He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Rose Genos of Champion; children, Dr. Jeff (Michelle) Genos of Twinsburg, Katie (Dr. Tim) Custer of Asheville, North Carolina, and Matt Genos of Frederick, Maryland; daughter-in-law, Jen Genos; sister-in-law, Pam Genos of Ravenna; brother-in-law, Dr. Frank (Trish) Veres of Champion; grandchildren, Spencer, Logan, CJ, Leah (Mark), Luke, Hope (Nathan), Riley, Ethan and Jacob; along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ethel Theodore, and brother, Pete Genos.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, 2025, at North Mar Church, 3855 E. Market St., Warren, OH 44484, where Pastor Paul Armitage will officiate.
Friends may call 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, 2025, at North Mar Church.
He will be laid to rest privately in Oakwood Cemetery, Warren.
