Gary S. Jenkins 1940-2025
SOUTHINGTON — With peaceful hearts, we announce the passing of Gary Steven Jenkins, 85, departed this life Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born Jan. 13, 1940, in Warren, Gary was a devoted husband to Marcia Jenkins; a loving father to Sherrie Jenkins and Steve Jenkins; and a cherished grandfather to Zaida Jenkins Hendershot, Natalie Jenkins and Claire Jenkins. His family circle extended to his daughter-in-law, Julie Jenkins, and Zaida’s husband, Courtland Hendershot, as well as his beloved sibling, Haven Jenkins.
Gary’s life was a testament to faith, humility and service. Baptized in 1976 at Braceville Christian Church, he remained a steadfast member for over 50 years, serving as chairman of the trustees for a decade. He graduated from Leavittsburg High School in 1959, and dedicated 43 years to Denman Tire Manufacturing, retiring in 2002. In addition, his skilled hands shaped countless projects as a carpenter from 1962 to 2002.
A proud Army veteran, Gary served as a private first class from July 1963 to July 1965, earning expert honors in marksmanship and receiving an honorable discharge.
His passions included woodworking, golf, the outdoors, country dancing and collecting, all pursuits he enjoyed with a gentle spirit.
Those who knew Gary remember his loving, compassionate and humble nature. He was accepting all people, strong in his values and always ready to help others. His faith and devotion to family created a legacy of love, acceptance and trust.
He applied his carpentry skills to build his family home, remodel his parents’ retirement home, remodel and maintain his church, and support friends and family with countless home projects.
A favorite scripture of his, Philippians 4:6, guided his life: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
Cherished memories include family vacations at Myrtle Beach, golf weekends and peaceful times together at home. Gary’s legacy is one of peace, kindness and unwavering devotion — a life well-lived and a soul at rest.
