Ernest C. Tripodi Jr. 1943-2025

NILES — It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ernest C. “Ernie” Tripodi Jr., 82, who passed peacefully Tuesday evening, Nov. 25, 2025, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital, following a brief illness.

Ernest was born Feb. 13, 1943, in Niles, the son of Ernest C. Tripodi Sr. and Edith Caruso Brandt. He had one sister: the late Judith Skiba.

Ernie was a graduate of the Niles McKinley High School Class of 1962 and of the Catholic faith.

Ernie was deeply adored by Carol A. Ruddy Tripodi, his wife of 63 years. They met in 1960 during a casual night of bowling and fell madly in love almost immediately. They married on Sept. 8, 1962, and started raising a family in 1963, welcoming two daughters into their lives.

Ernie made a lifelong career as a meat cutter at many local grocery stores even after retirement from Delphi Packard Electric.

He enjoyed many friendships throughout his career as a meat cutter and touched many lives over the years as a bingo caller for the Warren Boosters. He was lovingly referred to as “Mr. Bingo” by many of his friends. Ernie’s laughter was infectious, and he was one of the kindest souls. He reminded everyone of a big teddy bear, especially his loving wife.

In his later years he enjoyed tending to his yard and one of his favorite pastimes was grocery shopping, daily. He was joyous and ornery and took great pleasure in scorching everyone at one time or another. His most cherished moments were those with his loving wife.

Ernest is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter, Pattie Nypaver; and two grandchildren, Jeremy and Gina Nypaver. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Patricia Hray, Jennifer (Paul) LaBenne and Charlotte Cancelli.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Nancee Tripodi; his parents and his sister, Judith Skiba.

At his request, a celebration of life will take place at a date to later be determined.

Private burial was at Niles City Cemetery.
