Alphonse D. Conti Jr. 1943-2025
NILES — Alphonse Dominic Conti Jr., 82, passed away peacefully at 12:07 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2025, at the Hospice House in Poland.
He was born on Nov. 14, 1943, in Youngstown, the son of Alphonse Dominic and Phyllis Russo Skiffey Conti Sr.
Al was a graduate of Youngstown City East High School and received his Bachelor of Education degree from Youngstown State University.
He began his career as an elementary school teacher for the Diocese of Youngstown in 1967, at Mount Carmel School in Ashtabula. From 1972 to 1999, he taught at Mount Carmel School in Niles and retired in the spring of 1999. For a couple years, he was a purchaser for the J.D. Farmer Plumbing Company. He was drawn back to the school environment and was the custodian at St. Stephen School from 2001 to 2007.
Throughout the years in education, he taught thousands of students whom he referred to as his “kids.” Al was a member of St. Pope John XXIII Parish, attending both St. Stephen and Our Lady of Mount Carmel churches.
Al was an avid woodworker, winemaker, fisherman, vegetable gardener, grower and judge of Jackson Perkins Roses. He loved to play baseball, AA in Youngstown City, college and was a bowler with one perfect 300 game. He also loved his “Beagle Boys” dogs.
Al is survived by his wife, Judith A. “Judy” Welton Conti, whom he married on July 7, 1973; nieces and nephews, Dominic Conti of Cleveland, Cathy Ming of Cleveland, Michele Conti of Cleveland, Martin Conti of Cleveland, Michelle Gray of Niles and Michael Monteforte of Liberty.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph R. Conti and D. Anthony Conti; and sister, Maria Monteforte.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, at St. Stephen Church.
Family and friends are to meet at church for funeral Mass and following Mass everyone is invited to Ciminero’s Banquet Centre for a luncheon and to greet the family.
Entombment will be in Pineview Cemetery.
The family thanks the Warren Dialysis Center for their kind and compassionate care of Al throughout the years.
