Theresa R. Verbosky 1923-2025
WARREN — Theresa R. Montecalvo Verbosky, 102, passed away Friday evening, Oct. 31, 2025, at Community Commons Assisted Living in Warren.
Theresa was born Sept. 7, 1923, in Warren, a daughter of the late Nicola and Portia Iannizzaro Montecalvo.
She grew up, one of 11 children, a friend to everyone. After school, she worked the ticket booth at the Robins Theatre, and later, in the 1930s, at the photo booth at Kresge’s downtown Warren.
Theresa married Andrew F. “Andy” Verbosky Sr. on July 31, 1943; they shared 60 years of marriage until his passing on July 13, 2004.
Theresa is survived by one daughter, Susan Eppes Pugh of Tuscumbia, Alabama; and two sons, Andrew F. “Drew” (Rina) Verbosky Jr. and Stephen M. Verbosky, both of Warren.
A sister, Regina Canzonetta also survives her.
Besides her parents, Theresa was preceded in death by three sisters, Jeanette Sicuro, Mary Pupillo and Lena Kershner; and six brothers, Joseph, Patsy, Frankie, Jimmy, Nick and Carmen Montecalvo.
Theresa was a longtime member of the former SS. Cyril and Methodius Church in Warren, where she served as president of the Cyril and Methodius Ladies Guild, along with working many fundraising events over the years, well into her 80s. Theresa was an icon and was always giving of her time and talents. Theresa worked at Zofko’s Marvel Pastries for over 25 years, where she learned the art of decorating cakes. She then took her talents to Macali’s Giant Eagle bakery, where she worked as a cake decorator until she was 80 years old. Nothing pleased her more than when her nieces and nephews would ask her to make their birthday and wedding cakes. Another passion of hers was to host family and friends to a home-cooked Italian dinner, especially when her brothers and in-laws would visit from out of town.
Most of all, Theresa cherished her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by four granddaughters, Mrs. Brooke (Joseph) Steines of Warren, Mrs. Cerissa (Shawn) Ruddy of Cortland, Mrs. Amanda (Rick) Nebinger of Asheboro, North Carolina, and Ms. Emily Eppes of Houston, Texas; two grandsons, Brian (Jenny) Annandono and Elliott (Ciara) Verbosky; 10 great-grandchildren, Braven, Anthony, Sebastian, Maddison, Willow, Kaitlyn, Cara, Raelynn, Rylee and Vera; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to the former and present staff at Community Commons for the love and care shown towards Theresa during her stay.
