Richard Ellis Naylor 1933-2025

HORSE SHOE, N.C. — Richard Ellis “Dick” Naylor, 92, formerly of Warren, passed away after a brief illness Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2025, at the VA Hospice Center in Asheville, North Carolina.

He was born in Warren to Arthur Dean Naylor and Leona Carrie Rising Naylor.

He grew up in Warren and graduated from Warren G. Harding High School. After graduation, he served in the United States Navy, spending two years aboard ship in the Mediterranean. His time in the service shaped him with discipline, quiet strength and a lasting sense of duty.

On Sept. 3, 1954, Dick married Nancy Sprague; together they built a loving home and were blessed with four children. They spent 12 years in Massachusetts before returning to Warren. Their marriage was filled with hard work, laughter and devotion until Nancy’s passing in January 1997.

On Feb. 21, 1998, he married Patricia Brown, and they made their home in Horse Shoe, where they enjoyed many years together. Their life there was marked by companionship and the simple joy of being side by side. Pat passed away in April 2023.

Faith was an important part of Dick’s life. He taught Sunday school and Bible studies for many years, sharing his love of scripture and quietly living out what he believed. Many were influenced by his steady example and thoughtful teaching.

He was also an avid dog lover and enjoyed golfing and fishing.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Pauline; his brothers, Robert and Thomas; his wife, Nancy; his wife, Pat; and his stepdaughter, Karen St. Clair.

He is survived by his four children, Deborah (Gary) Crawford of Warren, Mark (Sandra) Naylor of Las Vegas, Nevada, Michael Naylor, also of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Nancy (AC) Bobbitt of Powell; his stepdaughters, Sandra Lemke and Jennifer Hillyer of North Carolina; five grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and five great-grandchildren; as well as extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held.
