Pauline C. Logar 1930-2025

McDONALD — Pauline C. Logar, 95, passed away peacefully, Sunday morning, Nov. 2, 2025, at her home.

She was born Aug. 20, 1930, in McDonald, the daughter of Paul and Katherine Bilandzija Cveljo.

Pauline was a lifelong resident of McDonald and a 1948 graduate of McDonald High School. It was after high school that she met Andrew “Andy” Logar of Niles. They married July 7, 1951, and together raised four children — daughters, Deborah “Debbie” and Katherine “Kitty,” and sons, Richard and Dennis.

Pauline and Andy’s home on Pennsylvania Avenue was always full and never quiet. It was the gathering place for pig roasts, late-night card games, Sunday dinners, Christmas Eve caroling and polkas. Lots of polkas!

An avid cook and baker, Pauline delighted her family — especially her grandchildren — with her clothespin cookies, spahovka (pork crackling bread), chicken and dumplings, potica and sauerkraut soup. She believed in the connection found in family traditions and the importance of cherishing them.

Pauline also enjoyed crocheting, polka dancing and bowling, as well as playing cards with her “Secret Eights” card club. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family and babysitting her grandchildren.

She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, the Altar and Rosary Society and the SNPJ Lodge.

Pauline retired as a seamstress from Reminiscence Bridal in downtown Niles, and previously worked as branch manager for McKinley Bank, dairy department manager for Kroger grocery store, proofreader for the Niles Daily Times and at Bett’s Dairy in McKinley Heights.

The last five years of her life, she lived with and was cared for by her daughter, Debbie, and husband, Thom Kunkel, only moving from one end of Pennsylvania Avenue to the other. She brought with her all of the family visits, her birthday pig / lamb roasts, her love of “Everybody Loves Raymond,” and her sweet and lovable self-deprecating humor.

Pauline is survived by two sons, Richard (Karen) Logar of Canfield and Dennis (Nadia) Logar of McDonald; two daughters, Debbie (Thom) Kunkel of McDonald and Kitty (Greg) Robison of McDonald; 11 grandchildren, Tracie (Chris) Schmidt of Canfield, Rebecca (Michael) Mackin of Pittsburgh, Pa., Sarah (Todd) Holbrook of Columbus, Paul Logar of Phoenix, Arizona, Tim (Laura) Kunkel of McDonald, Joe (Karrie) Kunkel of Columbus, Andy (Allie) Kunkel of Boardman, Jeff (Blaine) Kunkel of Howland, Patrick (Lauren) Kunkel of Cincinnati, Andrea (Mike) Zupcsan of Canfield and Michael (Angie) Robison of Hudson; and 17 great-grandchildren, with another on the way.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew S. Logar, who passed away Jan. 11, 1989; and by her sisters, Rose Wishak, Margaret Toth and Anne Tepsick.

Calling hours will be 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, at Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home in Niles. A prayer service will follow at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in McDonald.

Burial will follow in Kerr Cemetery.
