Charles J. Balside Sr. 1928-2025
WARREN — Charles J. Balside Sr., 97, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2025, at Shepherd of the Valley-Howland.
He was born May 18, 1928, in Hamilton, the son of Anthony and Shirley Goode Balside.
Charles was a 1946 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Xenia and employed as a supervisor for 42 years at General Motors Hamilton and Lordstown, retiring in 1987.
He enjoyed garage sales, music, playing the banjo, watching Lawrence Welk and old Western movies, was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns fan, and a United States Air Force veteran.
His wife, Louise Carter Balside, whom he married Dec. 25, 1967, died April 8, 2005.
He will be sadly missed by his son, Charles J. Balside Jr of Cincinnati; a daughter, Rebecca Sawyer and her husband, Craig, of Niles; seven grandchildren, Brittany, Noah, Sarah, Katie, Shelly, C.J. and Caleb; and three great-grandchildren, Oddy, Atticus and Austin.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William Balside, and a sister, Wilhelmina Boylen.
Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery, where Charles will be honored for his military services by the VFW 9571 Ellsworth Honor Guard.
