Sandra Jean Cooper Jackson 1938-2025

WARREN — Sandra Jean Cooper Jackson, 86, formerly of Sharon, Pa., passed away in Warren on Monday, Oct. 6, 2025, after an extended illness.

Sandra was born Oct. 19, 1938, in Sharon, Pa., the third child of Lewis H. and Edith I. Flippens Cooper. She attended Sharon City Schools and later in life, Penn State University, Shenango Campus.

After living in New York City for many years, Sandra longed for the more relaxed pace of home and returned to the Shenango Valley. She secured employment at the Sherwin-Williams Container Plant in Hubbard. After the facility was sold to the U.S. Can Co., Sandra was promoted to the quality control department. She would later be promoted again to shipping foreman. Sandra retired from U.S. Can after more than 25 years of service, but maintained a working relationship with the company for a time as an independent contractor.

Sandra enjoyed sports and played volleyball and softball as a youngster. Her love of sports continued into adulthood. She belonged to a golf league and a bowling league. She even took up skiing for a time.

Sandra was fond of less strenuous pursuits as well. She organized a billiards team and entered it into league play. She indulged her love for horses by visiting various racetracks to watch the thoroughbreds run. And it wouldn’t be at all unusual to find her in one of the local social halls playing bingo. In later years, Sandra satisfied her sports cravings by watching all of the tennis tournaments, as well as beach volleyball and track and field events. But in the fall, she was all about her Dallas Cowboys.

Sandra was a woman of many talents. She played the piano and had a beautiful singing voice. She loved to reminisce about the times she was invited to sing with the professional musicians at their after-hours “jam sessions” in the jazz clubs in New York.

Her love of storytelling and the English language (never play Scrabble with her) enhanced her gift for writing. In addition, she was well-known for her skill in the kitchen — particularly her famous fried chicken. Her annual Fourth of July cookouts were the talk of the neighborhood.

Sandra loved to laugh and have a good time. She was most often the life of the party. Those who knew and loved her may find life a little less entertaining without her in it.

Sandra is survived by her daughter, Michele A. (Garrison) Hull, and grandson, Kevin L. Hull, both of Warren; her brother, Lewis H. Cooper III (Daniela) of Aschaffenburg, Germany; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Marc Edward Garrison; her sister, Marilyn A. Scott; her third husband, Vincent Jackson (deceased 1978); her second husband, Richard E. Fletcher (deceased 1971); and her former husband, Herbert E. Garrison (deceased 2010).

Private burial has already taken place. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Sandra was a woman of great compassion — a champion of the innocent and the helpless. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a charity that provides for the care and support of those in desperate need. Sandra’s favorite charities were St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, and any organization that protects and cares for animals.
