Ruth Ann Palmer 1944-2025

NILES — Ruth Ann Gibbs Palmer, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, early Tuesday morning, Oct. 21, 2025, at her residence.

She was born Feb. 11, 1944, in Youngstown, a daughter of William Clyde and Laverne Jean Wiltrout Gibbs. Ruth was the oldest of seven children and a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother throughout her life.

She was a 1962 graduate of Liberty High School with an emphasis in secretarial work.

Ruth dedicated much of her life to serving others. She worked for the former Packard Electric Corp. for 13 years and for the Niles City School District for an additional 13 years, where she was admired for her professionalism, kindness and quick wit.

Known for her wonderful sense of humor, Ruth brought laughter and light to everyone around her.

She married the love of her life, John F. Palmer, on June 13, 1964. Together they shared 57 years of marriage filled with love, laughter and faith. John preceded her in death on July 7, 2021.

A woman of deep faith, Ruth served faithfully in her church throughout her life. She joyfully gave her time and talents working with children and youth, singing in the choir and serving as church treasurer. Her life was a beautiful reflection of steadfast devotion, generosity and grace.

She is survived by her two beloved children, David John (Jennifer) Palmer of Rancho Cucamonga, California, and Kimberly Renee Werden of Niles. She also leaves behind her loving siblings, Beverly Jean Dewalk, William Joseph Gibbs, Carolyn Renee Riggleman and Wendee Sue Pennington. She was a proud, loving grandmother to Taylor Renee (David) Venezuela, Sierra Nicole Werden, Sarah Josephine Palmer, Jahanna Marie (Grant) Fredericks and John Levi Palmer. Her heart overflowed with joy for her great-granddaughter, Vienna Rose Venezuela, and she eagerly awaited the arrival of her great-grandson, due in January 2026.

Besides her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Charlene Kay Miner and Denise Lynn McCoy.

Ruth will be remembered for her gentle spirit, sharp wit, unwavering faith and the deep love she shared with family and friends. Her legacy of humor, compassion and faith will continue to shine through the lives she touched.

Funeral services will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025, at Lane Funeral Homes, Mineral Ridge Chapel, 1350 N. Canfield Niles Road, Mineral Ridge.

Friends may call 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

She will be laid to rest with her beloved husband at a later date, in Kerr Cemetery in Mineral Ridge.
