Anthony Evangelista 1941-2025

HOWLAND — Anthony Evangelista, born Feb. 15, 1941, peacefully passed away Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025, in the presence of his wife, daughters and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lena and Anthony Evangelista Sr., and was raised in Uniontown, Pa., a place he cherished and returned to often.

Anthony loved his country, serving in the U.S. Armed Forces and fighting in the Korean War.

Following his time in the service, Anthony met his wife, Paula, after moving to Cleveland, to pursue work. The two were married on Aug. 9, 1963, in Cumberland, Maryland, and after several years living in Cleveland moved to Warren (Howland), where they raised their three daughters while he worked for the Continental Baking Company (Hostess Brand). Anthony had a long career there and retired in 2004.

Anthony loved the outdoors and had a sense of adventure. He held a private pilot license and enjoyed boating, hunting, camping with the family on summer vacations at the beach, and riding with his motorcycle club, where he volunteered for several years.

Baking was also among his favorite activities and was also a way to show his generosity. His homemade chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin pie were always eagerly anticipated by family, friends and neighbors, but especially by his grandchildren.

Anthony also loved to keep busy and to help others, whether it be clearing driveways or helping with the grass in the neighborhood. He always noticed when a person needed help (even if he didn’t know them well) and went out of his way to lend a hand. Tony also enjoyed watching his Pittsburgh Steelers but found most joy in attending sporting events for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was always proud to wear their team colors and cheer them on.

He leaves his wonderful grandchildren, Janelle, Lenay, Josephine, Brooke and Wyatt; and great-grandchildren, Alexis, Landon, Aidan and Addison.

He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Lebro Evangelista, Aggie Kulchock and Jennie Ventura.

He is survived by his loving wife, Paula; his sister, Stella Nemeth; and brother, Leno Evangelista. He is also survived by his children, Sherry and Steve Horger, Gina Harper, and Carla and Matt Bobbey.

Family and friends may visit and pay tribute to Tony from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday evening, Oct. 10, 2025, at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel of Warren, 1884 North Road NE.

A private burial will take place in Howland Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Hope Center, 700 Howland Wilson Road, Warren, OH 44484 and St Joseph’s Cancer Center, 667 Eastland Ave., Warren, OH, 44484.
