Robert D. Gillespie 1944-2025

He was born June 29, 1944, in Buckhannon, W.Va., the son of the late John Wesley Gillespie and Bessie Melinda Anderson Gillespie.

Robert graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School, Class of 1964, and had lived in Warren since 1965.

He married the love of his life, Linda Lee Angel, on Oct. 1, 1966, and they had enjoyed the past 59 years of marriage together.

Robert worked as an assembler / repairman at General Motors Lordstown, retiring in 2000 after 32 years of service, and was a member of UAW Local 1112.

He loved woodworking, computers, electronics, building things, quilting and all things working with his hands.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, seven sisters and three brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Linda L. Gillespie of Warren; one daughter, Janet Springer of Warren Township; two sons, Robert and Wendy Gillespie of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Brian and Eve Gillespie of Warren; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at noon Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025, at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls, with Pastor Rob Bateman officiating. Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to noon.

Robert will be laid to rest in Meadowbrook Memorial Park in Warren.

The family has requested that all donations be made to the Akron Children’s Hospital, 1 Perkins Square, Akron, OH 44308, Attention: Volunteer Services.
