Patricia A. Merkel 1938-2025

Born Sept. 11, 1938, in Warren, Patty was the daughter of Leo and Mary Spelich Russ. From an early age, she brought joy and laughter to those around her — a gift she carried throughout her life. Her vibrant spirit and infectious sense of humor made her the heart of every gathering. Patty had a natural ability to lift spirits and bring smiles wherever she went.

In 1982, Patty fulfilled a dream by opening her own restaurant on Pine Island. Her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication turned it into more than just a place to eat — it became a beloved community hub where patrons returned not only for the food but for the warmth and laughter she shared so freely.

Patty’s love for her family was boundless.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Otto John “Jack” Merkel II; her parents, Leo and Mary Spelich Russ; and her sister and brother-in-law, Marylee and Fred Angstadt.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Doris L. “Dori” (Warren) Merkle, Otto John “Johnny” (Julio Velez) Merkel III, Patricia “Trish” A. (Lee) Offerdahl and Charles “Chuck” L. Merkel.

Patty also leaves behind five cherished granddaughters and two great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life.

Her legacy lives on in the laughter she inspired and the love she gave so generously. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her.
