Jerry Saxion 1945-2025

CORTLAND — Jerry Saxion, 80, passed peacefully surrounded by his family Thursday evening, Sept. 11, 2025.
Jerry was born July 20, 1945, in Armstrong County, Pa., a son of the late John and Anna Lorraine Bowser Saxion.
He was a 1963 graduate of Farmington High School and continued his education at Kent State University, where he studied tool and die technology. He worked at Van Huffel Tube for eight years prior to working at General Motors / Packard Electric for 35 years before retiring. He was a member of IUE Local 717, the West Farmington Methodist Church and Fire Department, National Quarter Horse Association and the National Rifle Association.
He moved to Greene Township, where he lived for 47 years. Here, he raised and rode quarter horses, farmed and made machinery trailers. He immensely enjoyed his 100-acre farm by using his collection of Ford tractors and Kubota excavators. He said he had a tractor or equipment for any job! He also was heavily involved with 4-H as an adviser.
In his younger years, he gave to his community as a volunteer firefighter.
He had an adventurous life riding motorcycles, Polaris ATVs and jet skiing at Chautauqua Lake in New York and Lake Norman in North Carolina with his son and son-in-law. He also enjoyed hunting in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Colorado.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Barb, out West to national parks, the Rose Parade, Northern California and Hawaii, and taking extended vacations at his daughter’s home in Mooresville, on Lake Norman in Mooresville, North Carolina.
He was a family man who always took time to visit his grandson, Cole, and loved taking him for rides on his ATV. While he was in the audience of Cole’s many music performances, he would proudly say, “That’s my grandson!” He was a wonderful husband, great dad and proud Papa, and cared exceedingly for his family.
Jerry will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Barbara Saxion, whom he married July 23, 1966; children, Jerry (Suzanne) Saxion Jr. and Tammy Marie (Carl Crater) Saxion; grandson, Cole H. Saxion; sister, Sandy Taipale; and sister-in-law, Jeanne Saxion, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin sister, Judy Rose; brother, Ronnie Saxion; brother-in-law, John Rose; nephew, Johnny Rose; and grandson, Cookie Saxion.
