Douglas Eugene Barnhart 1968-2025

LAKE WORTH, Fla. — Doug Barnhart, 57, died peacefully on Monday, Sept. 1, 2025.

He was born March 30, 1968, in Warren, a son of the late George Barnhart and Shirley Miller Barnhart.

Doug graduated from Warren Western Reserve High School in 1986 and from Hiram College in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree. Doug loved playing football, teaching and coaching football, but his greatest love was his wife, Jennifer Fisher Barnhart; they married Nov. 28, 2016.

Survived by his wife, Jennifer, along with brothers, Daniel (Joanne), Richard “Jimbo” (Jolene), Greg (Kathy), Brian (Linda) and John (Jessica); stepmom, Patricia Barnhart; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was very well loved.

He was preceded by brothers, Charles Barnhart, William Barnhart and George Barnhart Jr.; his nephew, Steven Barnhart; and sister-in-law, Monica Barnhart.

Coach Barn, Dougie Fresh, Big Money Drip or just Doug was a dedicated teacher and football and track and field coach whose career spanned over 30 years. No matter if you called him friend, brother, coach or husband, if you knew Dougie, you knew he had a heart bigger than life — pure gold. We have all heard, “He’d give you the shirt off his back,” but Doug literally was that kind of guy and gave his shirt off his back to an athlete at a track and field event so they could participate; he was the epitome of a genuine hero. So, it’s with no wonder or surprise that in 2022, he earned the most prestigious award granted a teacher, “MY TEACHER, MY HERO” presented by the School District of Palm Beach County.

He will be sorely missed; thank you for everything, Barn. Rest in peace.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
