Thomas R. Yearms 1946-2025
CHAGRIN FALLS — Thomas Raymond Yearms passed away peacefully Monday, July 7, 2025, at the age of 79. He was surrounded by his family and faithful four-legged companion, Hunter.
Born May 4, 1946, Tom was the son of the late Charles Bernard and Florence Elizabeth Gundy Yearms, lifetime residents of Warren.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Virginia Ann “Ginny.” He was the proud, loving father of two sons, Tobias Ryan (Janine Lynn) and Michael Alexander (Amber Leigh) Yearms; and is also survived by their mother, Rita Sartorio of Warren.
As “Grandpa Beep Beep,” Tom found great joy in his young granddaughter, Genevieve, daughter of Toby and Janine. She brought him endless happiness, laughter and pride.
Over the miles, Tom remained a strong and loving supporter of his “big Sis,” Sandra Yearms Joblonicky of Houston, Texas. He was a mentor and “bossy” brother. With great amusement, they relished when they proclaimed themselves the world’s greatest conspirators of the “hippity hop Bunny” variety.
Tom was born, raised and schooled in Warren. He was a popular high school student, football player, ice skater and a skilled hunter with his dad, uncles and cousins in Sagamore, Pa. He enjoyed his snowmobiles and fishing, and had a profound respect for the beauty and power of nature.
A passion for architecture, he possessed a hidden talent as a pencil and charcoal artist, his favorite subject matter being old, historic sailing ships.
His next chapter beckoned when he was drawn by the lure of shimmering white sand and the clear turquoise waters of Sarasota, knowing the thrill of the catch awaited him.
While there, Tom found his most precious treasure when he met and instantly knew he would marry the love of his life, Virginia Ann “Ginny,” his cherished wife of 40 years, the radiant center of his universe.
Tom’s professional life was as dynamic and enterprising as he was. A self-made entrepreneur, he found success in the oil, gas and finance industries, where his sharp instincts and tenacity earned him the respect of colleagues and clients alike.
Outside the office, Tom was happiest in his home and on the water. He became a licensed boat captain and certified diving instructor.
An engaging host, no matter the occasion, “there was always room for one more,” a lesson taught him early in life by his mother and grandmother, Gundy.
After many years in Sarasota, he and Ginny returned to Ohio to be closer to family.
A force of nature in both sunshine and snow, Tom was not only a Renaissance Man but a beacon of excellence in everything he pursued. His greatest blessings were the people he loved and the memories they created together.
He will be deeply missed and loved forever.
Tom’s final wishes were cremation and a return to the powdery, quartz-crystal sand and sparkling waters of Siesta Key.
