Thomas G. Lyman 1930-2025

CHAMPION — Thomas George Lyman, 95, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025, at Windsor House at Champion.

Tom was born Feb. 15, 1930, in Warren, a son of Philip R. and Caroline Wheeldin Lyman. He grew up in Bristolville and attended Bristolville High School. He was part of the starting five of the basketball team, where he played in several county and state tournaments.

Upon graduation in 1948, Tom enlisted in the Army, where he served three years during the Korean War. He was very honored to serve his country and was proud of the U.S. military.

He met his wife, L. Pearlene Wilson Lyman, in 1951. They married in 1952 and were married 59 years until she died in 2011.

Tom was employed by Packard Electric, Ajax Magnethermic, and retired from the Lakeview school system. Tom was also an avid coon hunter and fisherman and enjoyed being outside in nature.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and son-in-law, William G. Maus.

He is survived by his daughter, Georgette M. Lyman Maus of Cortland; brother, Gerald R. Lyman of Cortland; and nieces, Lisa Lyman-Saum (Mickey) of Burghill and Carla Lyman Hurd (Bill) of Champion.

A private service is being held by the family. Burial will be in Sager Cemetery in North Bristolville.
