Shelby J. Conn 1938-2025

Shelby was born Feb. 11, 1938, at the Grant Street home in Niles, the daughter of James Fred and Gladys Marie Dowdy Tomlin and has lived in this area all her life.

Shelby was a 1956 Niles McKinley High School graduate, a member of the Niles Business and Professional Women’s Club, and volunteered for the Trumbull County Rape Crisis team. For many years, she was an active member of the Niles Civil Service Commission.

She retired in 2019 as apartment manager for the ABC Management Company with 45 years of faithful service. She managed the Bellaire Apartments and the Central Park Senior Citizens Apartments in Niles.

She enjoyed working crossword puzzles with her friend, Joe Bonnano, reading, traveling to the casinos and visiting with her grandchildren.

Shelby is survived by her daughter, Cynthia “Cindi” Kanchok of Lordstown, with whom she lived; son, Bill (Becky) Conn of Lordstown; four grandchildren, Michael Infante of Lordstown, John Infante of Mineral Ridge, William (Jessica) Conn of Fowler and Sam Conn of Lordstown; two great-grandsons, Mikey Infante and Myles Conn; and many extended family members.

Shelby was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Conn, whom she married in 1956 and who passed away on Feb. 13, 1975; son-in-law, Bill Kanchok; four sisters, Helen Horton, Darlene Holbrook, Dorothy Sexton and Gladys Ater; and four brothers, Luke, Joe, Homer and Fred Tomlin.

A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025, at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home in Niles. Pastor Darrell Cline will officiate. Calling hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be with her parents in the Niles City Cemetery.
