Frederick J. Santell Jr. 1943-2025

CORTLAND — Frederick J. Santell Jr., 81, passed away Tuesday morning, Aug. 26, 2025, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital.
Fred was born Sept. 7, 1943, in Sharon, Pa., a son of Frederick J. Sr. and Rose Arcuri Santell.
Fred was a 1961 graduate of Sharon High School and went on to attend Penn State University and Youngstown College. He then joined the United States Army Reserve during the Vietnam War, serving for six years as a reservist. Later, Fred began work for Packard Electric, where he worked for 35 years, retiring as an inspector in 1999.
Outside of work, Fred and his wife, Marilyn, had a successful business in showing and breeding St. Bernard dogs. He enjoyed his canine companions over the years and cherished the many friendships and relationships that came from the business. Fred also enjoyed traveling to different dog show events, especially international trips. He was also an avid reader of World War II history.
Fred grew up going to Immaculate Conception Church in Farrell, Pa., and was most recently a member of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish-Blessed Sacrament Church, Warren.
Fred will always be remembered by his wife and best friend of 54 years, Marilyn LaVogue Santell of Cortland; sister, Beverly Evans of Farrell, Pa.; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Besides his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his sister, Caroline Anthony Zarella.
Family and friends may visit and pay tribute to Fred 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025, at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Road NE, Warren.
A funeral service will follow at noon Tuesday at the funeral home.
