Edwin W. Schultz Sr. 1932-2025

WARREN — Edwin William “Skip” Schultz Sr., 92, passed away peacefully, Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025.

Born Oct. 19, 1932, in Pittsburgh, Pa., Ed lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his work and his country.

In 1951, at just 19 years old, he opened his first gas station in Pittsburgh, launching a career rooted in hard work and entrepreneurial spirit. Ed relocated his family from Pittsburgh to Warren in 1965, where he established Schultz Service Center and Towing, which he operated until he retired to New Smyrna Beach, Florida, in 1998.

Ed proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. His service reflected the same steadfastness that would define his life in the decades to come.

A devoted husband for 63 years to his beloved wife, Julie Schultz, who passed away in 2017, Ed stood by her side through every challenge. Julie battled multiple sclerosis for many years and Ed remained her constant support — driving her to numerous medical appointments in New York City. Their enduring partnership was a testament to love and resilience.

Family was central in Ed’s life. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Ed Schultz Jr. and wife, Michelle of Warren, Susan Mamula and husband, Michael of Vienna, Linda Rankin and husband, Larry of Kinsman, Sally Bertok and husband, Ben of Geneva, Julie Taylor and husband, Albert of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Jim Schultz and wife, Jill of Cortland; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Along with his wife, Julie, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Ryan Mamula; and great-grandson, Kane Schultz; as well as his parents; and only sister, Ruth.

In addition to his devotion to family and work, Ed found joy in simple pleasures. A lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, he loved watching football games and enjoyed tuning into televised races. Ed’s legacy is one of quiet strength, commitment and deep familial love. His unwavering sense of humor he carried through life with him was present until the end; he would tease and joke with the staff at Gillette Nursing Home.

The family would like to thank the staff at Gillette and Akeso Hospice for the care that they provided in his final days.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

May the memories of Ed’s comical wit and sense of humor bring smiles to the faces of those who knew and loved him.
